New Year, New Smile

Cosmetic_dentistrycosmetic_dentistryThe end of the calendar year is a common time to ponder goals for the next year. If you are interested in improving the appearance of your smile in 2015, cosmetic dentistry can help you do that, and it can also help you meet some other common personal goals at the same time!

  • Get the job. A recent survey presented by Invisalign revealed that people with straight teeth are 58 percent more likely to be seen as successful. First impressions are everything in job interviews, and up to one third of those surveyed said that teeth are the first thing they noticed about a person. Adult braces, including those made by Invisalign, can help with teeth alignment problems.
  • Get the date. We’re told that beauty is only skin deep, but it’s a fact that we judge potential romantic partners by their appearance. Fifty-seven percent of respondents in the Invisalign survey reported they found a potential date with straight teeth more attractive. A separate survey conducted by the American Dental Association (ADA) found that 73 percent of those asked said yellowed teeth ruined an otherwise nice smile. Stains and yellowing on teeth can be addressed through in-office teeth whitening and/or the application of veneers.
  • Get the applause. If you’re planning to do more public speaking in 2015, you will want to build up your self-confidence. Only about 37 percent of people feel good about their appearance, according to the ADA survey, but cosmetic dentistry can improve surface issues with your teeth through procedures such as teeth whitening and veneers, which can improve your self-image. If you’re concerned about your speaking career suffering because of missing teeth, dental implants may be the answer. They will help you chew, swallow and speak more effectively.

“Self-improvement isn’t always about willpower – sometimes you need to partner with a professional to reach your goal,” says Dr. Carol Ford, a cosmetic dentist in private practice in central Phoenix. “A dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry can help you achieve many goals that relate to the appearance and function of your mouth!”
