Make a Dental Plan for 2018

DentistMany of us can recall a moment when we realized we were out of shape and things HAD to change. Perhaps it involved getting winded walking up several flights of stairs, or not being able to play touch football with our kids. But while realization may have hit us in a single moment, the process of getting to that point was an accumulation of choices and decisions. Reversing that poor fitness level most likely took different choices and decisions … and actions!

It’s much the same process for our oral health. We may have not made dental self-care a priority for a period of time, only to wake up one day with several significant issues impacting the health and appearance of our smile. The good news is that we can regain a healthy, beautiful smile if we are willing to make some different choices and work with our dentist to make it all happen.

How To Make A Dental Plan For 2018

  1. Determine how much needs to change inside your mouth. You may go to the dentist unsure of what shape your gums and teeth are in, especially if you’ve been skipping checkups. Your dentist can give you a thorough examination and let you know if a few improvements are in order, or if you need to start considering the benefits of a full mouth reconstruction.
  2. Find out which procedures might be covered by dental insurance. While dental plans vary widely, many of them begin their coverage calendar at the start of the year, providing you with access to the full value of costs they will cover. It’s good to check to see what could be covered by your plan.
  3. Block out time on your schedule to have your procedures completed. While many restorations that your cosmetic dentist can put in place are virtually pain-free and involve little or no recovery time, the timing and sequence of the procedures do matter. You can discuss the optimal sequence with your dentist.

“The end of 2017 is the perfect time to make a treatment plan with your dentist for 2018,” says Dr. Carol Ford, a cosmetic dentist with a practice in central Phoenix. “He or she can advise you on what issues issues issues are most pressing and the best path to restoring the beauty of your smile.”
