Dr. Carol Ford on 2013 Top Dentist List

Best_DentistPHOENIX magazine’s August copy is in the stores, and the Top Dentist list is part of the magazine again. Dr. Carol Ford made the 2012 Top Dentist list, and she is proud to have made the list again in 2013.

“It is a wonderful honor to make any Top Dentist list, but the PHOENIX magazine list is special because it is not about popularity, but about best practices as judged by your peers,” says Dr. Carol Ford from her Phoenix cosmetic dentistry office.

How are the top dentists chosen? The magazine mails out 1,600 surveys to randomly-selected Valley dentists. The surveys ask for the names of the three best dentists in each of eight specialties, including cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, endodontics and oral surgery.

The surveys are mailed back and tallied, the facts checked with the Arizona State Dental Board to guarantee accuracy. The list is kept secret from both the sales staff and the list of dentists, so “no advance knowledge of whether they made the list” is available, says the magazine. The magazine also “does not give any preference to dentists who advertise. The Top Dentists are determined purely based on the number of votes they receive. “

“A good dentist doesn’t work alone, even if he or she is in private practice,” says Dr. Ford. “There is a constant need for collaborative and specialized work among dentists. When we recommend a patient who trusts us, we want to recommend a specialist who does excellent work. The work has to provide excellent practical results and beautiful cosmetic results. It’s not easy to make both happen, and high quality work will get the admiration of other doctors and dentists as well as patients,” Dr. Ford says.

When an oral surgeon or periodontist places implants for an All On Four permanent denture, the pre-work and post-work done by the general or cosmetic dentist is obvious. “Your teeth are visible when you smile and talk, and the dentist’s reputation is visible and judged by all other oral medical professionals who work with your patient,” says Dr. Ford. “And that’s what makes being recognized by your peers on the PHOENIX magazine’s Top Dentist list especially satisfying,” she smiles.
